About Shri Sant Balumama
Shri Balumama was not a normal human being like us but he was an incarnation of God Shiva.
Shri Balumama was a shepherd belonging to the Kuruba Gowda / dhangar community.
He is considered a Saint. A shepherd, by the very nature of his job, has to come in contact usually with people who are in the very low section of society, whose lives are in trouble and bad habits.
Shri Balumama temple (samadi ) is located at a place called Admapur.
A shepherd cannot remain unaffected by them but Balumama was an exception and not an ordinary shepherd. In association with Balumama, their life changed almost beyond recognition.
He was a practical guide and counsel to them. Their miserable and immoral life was transformed into a civilized and spiritual one.
They could not thank god sufficiently for their good fortune to have such a spiritual guide.
He has many millions of followers in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. The Shri Baluamama temple is located at a place called Admapur in Kolhapur district in Maharastra.
Shri Saint Balumama’s life
Balumama was born in 1892, in a village called Akkol in Chikkodi taluka of Belgaum district in Karnataka. His father’s name was Mayappa and mother was Sundara.
He spent his childhood with his parents but was always lost in meditation and was a quiet boy. He later went on to live with his sister and was married to her daughter ( Satyavva) against his will. He was given about 15 sheep by his in-laws which he started to take care of.
The marriage did not last long.
Shri Balumama was the disciple of Shri Mulye Maharaj of Gargoti in Maharastra. Shri Mule Maharaj temple is in Gargoti (Kolhapur district) .
Shri Balumama Temple at Admapur
Balumama died at the age of 74 in 1966 at a village called Adamapur, in the Kolhapur district of Maharashtra.
A temple was built in his memory in Adamapur which is near Nipani in Karnataka but the place Adamapur belongs to Kolhapur district in Maharashtra.
The Temple is looked after by the “Shri Balumama Trust”. The sheep numbers have now grown to more than 50,000, which are looked after by the temple trust.
Shri Balumama spent most of his time at Margudevi temple, which is located at a walkable distance from the main temple. in Adamapur. I visited this place and I felt great peace.

People had a lot of faith and trust in Shri Baluamama because he possessed supernatural powers to see the future and help people. Whenever and Whatever he said has to become truth without fail. So he had very large numbers of followers who prayed for him to fulfill their wishes.
While shepherding his sheep, he was known to have performed several miracles and helped lots of poor and downtrodden people. He used to travel long distances with his sheep including parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka.
He was fluent in both Kannada and Marathi. The sheep which Balumama had were considered as holy as well.
If the herd of Balumama’s sheep stayed or passed through a person’s farm or field, he was bound to have had happiness, health, and wealth.
Belief about Shri Balumama
The sheep of Balumama are considered sacred, the current sheep which are the progeny (descendants) of the original sheep of Balumama are considered to be auspicious.
